Small-scale benchmarking is rare for a reason.
The traditional approach to benchmarking is extremely expensive to tackle. You build a massive database of an entire industry and run servers and teams non-stop to keep data current. Add in a lower price-point for smaller brands and you have a product that doesn't make sense for a company with overhead and stakeholders.
The simple solution.
How I'm able to do it anyway.
Instead of starting with an industry, I start with the individual brand. For each brand I build a custom set of 25-50 brands that are extremely similar to one another. This makes benchmarks highly accurate without the overhead.
Think of it like running a marathon. Instead of tracking everyone (traditional model), I only track runners that are your age and your skill level (my model). The result is fewer people to track, but each person's performance is highly relevant to yours.
