Day 2 – Out of My Element

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Day 2 and besides the fact I feel about as laid back in Salt Lake as I do in the dentist’s chair, things are coming along and it’s getting intense in every way possible…i even went out to lunch today, enough said. On a side note, as a lowly intern i don’t get an access pass nor a parking permit; so its trax everyday and signing in at the front desk for me. Of course, being an intern has its advantages. I have zero responsibility to perform at any level higher than that of an college undergrad. If I do something wrong, “How was I supposed to know, i’m just a lowly-non access card weilding intern!”. If I do something right and maybe even do it really, really right, i could possible turn heads long enough to get a little respect. What did I do today? I finished my research of other states’ incentive marketing efforts, helped find some info for an article Luke was writing, used Google to find out what the h— “talking points” are, prepared talking points for a meeting on Wednesday, and studied the GOED annual report from last year to get a better grasp on the whole enchilada. I don’t know if I can handle any more excitement. So, two days down…utter domination of the GOED marketing department to go.

Day 1 – Internship ‘08

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I started my internship today…it’s true. For the summer I will working under the watchful eye of one Clark Caras in the marketing department of the Governors Office of Economic Development (GOED for those in the know). Today was…awkward, as all first days are. I came in, strained the ol’ noggin to remember where his office was. Found Clark’s office to discover he wasn’t there, found Michael who led me to Luke, who I promptly clung to during an overly-exciting board meeting and other various activities.  Overall, kind of a funny day.  It was hard not to know exactly what I was doing and what direction I was going but I think it will be a great learning experience once I get settled.
